Choosing a printer can be a challenge until you take the time to determine what your needs are. You need to decide between an ink jet printer and a laser printer. Then you need to decide on what size printer you require for the tasks you will ask the printer to do.

There are mainly two types of printers in the market. The laser printers and inkjet printers are the only two choices available in the market. In the laser printer a laser beam is used to print the picture on the drum which is then transferred on to the paper. In the inkjet printer, however, ink is sprayed through tiny jets on to the page forming the image on the page. The difference between the two types of printers is the basic difference in the technology involved in them.

Inkjet printers are generally fairly versatile being able to print anything from spreadsheets to brochures to word documents to photos. Inkjet printers are particularly good at printing professional but inexpensive documents on a small quantity. Inkjets are designed to cope with only small print volumes, but they are also far more affordable than laser printers.

Another advantage of ink jet printers is that they are usually small and lightweight. Some also come with carry cases for easy portability. Hence they would be optimum for laptops and PDAs and such devices that require printing facilities. Their maintenance is also very easy with its spares readily available.

But if your job requires a high quality output, then you should consider a laser printer. Laser printers are known for providing high volume quality output at a fast rate. The quality is better than the ink jet although its running cost is quite high comparatively. They are also quite durable and have a long life span than an ink jet printer.

The two most popular and readily available printers are the ink jet printers and laser printers. The laser printer uses a laser beam to mark an image on a drum, which then fuses this image to the printer. On the other hand, the ink jet printer sprays ink through tiny jets on to the page without any laser imaging.

Pen Drive storage devices have proved themselves to be a very practical and robust mobile storage method, far surpassing anything that has gone before. For the most part these devices are very reliable as they rely on solid state technology and therefore have no moving parts, which is a big bonus.

This doesn’t explain the huge number of failures noted in recent months, in fact the whole of the data recovery industry seem to be focusing a lot of attention in the USB Memory Stick Recovery sector, but why should good old trustworthy Flash Memory require such devoted attention?

USB memory sticks are dropping in price all the time as with any technology as it ages and gains mass market adoption, and year on year growth in shipment of these devices has a run rate of around 100% meaning by the end of this year unit sales are expected to be in the region of a staggering 300 million.

With such large quantities of devices arriving in consumer’s hands, there is, of course bound to be a number of failures experienced in the field. What data recovery experts at Flash Data Recovery have found is that failure rates could be running at up to 5% – this relates to a tremendously high number of devices failing in the field, up to 15 000 000 devices per year!

So why is it that a storage media famed for its reliability fail in such high numbers? Well in about 98% of cases it is not the Flash memory that fails, in fact, following a failure it is not uncommon that the NAND memory chip within the USB device is found to be in perfect working order.

Consumer demand for cheaper goods and services invariably leads to driving manufacturing abroad and in this case to the far east where a lot of the premature failed devices seem to originate. The biggest culprits seem to be the generic unbranded memory sticks found cheap on auction sites. Notably though there is also a huge increase in the number of fake devices finding there way to the market as reported by a leading UK data recovery company in this article:

Nand Flash Identity fraud

These fake devices are intended to appeal to the greed emotion that is prevalent in all but a few consumers, but just because it is cheaper does not mean it is better. The manufacturing process may be cheaper in different world economies but the other factor that is immeasurable by the consumer is the quality of the components. Lower standard components are cheaper but just don’t last the distance in a lot of cases.

The best advice that anyone can give you here is to buy branded devices if the cost is affordable (which it generally is). And also ask your self this question, is the risk of losing all my data really worth risk of saving a relatively small amount of money?

You can find more great advice on data recovery here or for general computing advice visit the Computer repair website.

When money is tight often we are all tempted to do those little repairs that we would other wise get professional help to do and data recovery is no exception. Quite often data recovery are presented with hard drives that have been opened in an unsafe environment and also drive that have sustained further data loss through incorrect use of DIY recovery software.

In most cases this software will be a recovery program for a hard disk drive that has suffered from some form of logical table corruption and will not assist with

Mechanically failed devices

Degraded hard Disk Drives

Devices with electronic failures

This software will of course not be able to help and if the drive is degraded or suffering from a mechanical failure attempting to run this software will in most cases cause further damage to hard drives, potentially making the disk unrecoverable.

The software itself is very often very reasonable priced usually under $100 but is only good for one purpose to recover either deleted or logically failed drives, so if you are not sure what you are doing trying to do a self recovery can in the long run cost a lot more.

There are of course a lot of IT experts around of course and you may even have some in your own business, but do they really know what they are doing when it comes to the serious issue of data recovery? You would think that your onsite IT support would be data aware bit this is quite often simply not the case.

In a typical case a drive was initially presented for diagnosis and duly diagnosed with a blown PCB – the drive seemed completely dead and would not spin at all. As an additional test a new PCB was placed on the board so that the response of the heads could be tested. The result of this test was that the heads appeared to have been “blown” by a power surge through the drive. One of the IDE pins was blackened a good indicator of a surge / electronic fault.Upon further discussion, with the client, it transpired that the IT dept had decided to remove the HDD from the laptop and as it was an IDE device mount it as an external storage device by using an IDE connector.

Unfortunately they plugged the HDD to the connector “upside down” meaning that crucially the drive received a huge power spike through it when the connector was hooked up to a PC. This spike most certainly blew the board and took the heads with it. The hard disk drive is a Hitachi TravelStar, a drive notorious for complications with the heads.

It appears that the lack of care taken by the IT dept has caused the drive far more problems that what was probably a simple case of “bad sectors” on a hard disk drive. The cost of a simple bad sectors recovery has now become a full HDD rebuild with the search now on for suitable parts – causing delay and additional costs to the School concerned.

Many businesses need to get their data back as quickly as possibly so it is quite frustrating to have additional costs and additional downtime whilst you are waiting for data to be recovered

Sadly this is not an isolated case and data recovery companies the world over will have a whole collection of stories where simple recoveries were turned into data disasters by the DIY and have a go brigade

So the moral of this is that Whilst many people will look for a quick and cheap fix for their data loss situation, usb memory recovery or flash drive repair , they really are best leaving the diagnosis and recovery to an expert company, very often the dearest option is often the cheapest in the long run!
